Labs are generally very friendly and easy to train.  That is because they were originally bred for hunting and often they hunt with new and different people and dogs, so they should not be aggressive. They do have a lot of energy and strength to retrieve quarry from the water and rough terrain and stamina to finish the hunt.  And finally, they must take commands and try to please people.  These qualities have made Labrador Retrievers the number one most popular dog in America for several years!

These same qualities used for hunting make the lab a fantastic pet as well, energetic, friendly, healthy, and smart. Labs are also used for all kinds of scent work including rescue, law enforcement, and finding antler sheds and blood trails.  Of course, they are popular as seeing-eye dogs as well.

Above all, we look for health and a good disposition.  Of course, good behavior is mostly a reflection of the owner. We check hips radiographically with OFA and do genetic testing when possible. We feel these are some really top-notch labs suitable for hunting or just a lifelong buddy.
